Chen Ying and Friendrich took us on an outing on Saturday. We went to the Royal Selangor pewter factory. This is a replica of the twin towers made from Pewter tankards. It is two stories high.
This is a money tree. Tin used to be their exchange of money. Since it was soft, they would break off a piece to purchase items such as food. Of course, we had to buy one. But it is pewter so not soft.
They pound in the design on cups. We go to try. Theirs is very even. Mine was not so good.

This is in the Guinness Book of Records. Worlds largest tankard. It holds 615 gallons.

We were in Penang for Valentines. It is an island. This view is from the senior couples apartment. They are living with their expat son on the whole floor. They are living in the guest apartment which is very large with this great view open to the air. No door or window.
We went to dinner with two other senior couples and the daughter in law of the couple staying in Penang. Their son is in New York on business.

This is the last thing I wanted to do before going home - visit a mosque. The women must be covered but the men only have to be covered from the chest down.
This is the oldest mosque in K.L. It is called masjid jamek bandaraya which means main mosque city. The National Mosque is much more modern.

Friendrich brought over this wishing light. We write our wishes for the new year on it. Then we take it outside and light the candle under it. The candle will last for 40 minutes. We watched it go up until it was only a dot.

These are the United Buddy Bears. There are 147 countries represented. They are touring the world. Malaysia is the 17th country to be visited. It started in Germany in 2003. We took pictures of the bears of the countries we have visited and where our sons served their missions. We took one of Cuba because he was smoking a cigar. And Iraq had a flying carpet.

This is the Pavilion Mall in Kuala Lumpur. It is where the designer stores are. We do not shop here. These are the Chinese New Year decorations.

This is the only red lion I have seen. It was at Central Market doing the Lion dance. The drums are very loud.
This is an acrobatic Lion Dance at Mid Valley Mega Mall. We didn't have a good view but okay. There are two people in each lion so it takes talent to dance from pole to pole.

The lions are crouched over a basket of oranges. When they get up they have the oranges and toss them to the audience. People feed red envelopes with money in them to the lions. It is good luck to touch the lion.

Flat Stanley, from Anna's school, chose a good time to come visit us. This is Chinese New Year. Susan and Siew Yin Ho took all the missionaries to lunch. It is tradition to toss the salad before starting the meal.

We went to see the lion dance at Central Market. These are the drummers for the dancers.
The lions danced through the building which is where we buy souvenirs. When the lions dance through the building, it brings good luck.

This is a dragon dance. We had never seen one before. Friendrich did a video on my new camera. He is tall. We couldn't see over the crowds. This dance is not done often because it takes so many people to do it.

Cameron and Friendrich came with us to the towers to take us to the Pavilion Mall but us old seniors got tired, and since we were lucky enough to happen upon a dragon dance, we went home. The longest dragon in Asia is supposed to be on display there.

HAPPY CHINESE NEW YEAR. We are leaving the year of the rabbit and entering the year of the dragon.

Oranges play a big part in Chinese New Year. People give them to friends and family. They also give a red packet with money in it to those who are not married.

These are the decorations at the Mid Valley Mega Mall. There are a lot of shops selling Chinese New Year articles. Chinese New Year is all about red.

Looking at our family history fan. There are many blank spots.
We visit this shop a lot. They call it a stationery shop. We buy folders, paper, office supplies and get copies made and sometimes bound.

SENIOR CONFERENCE in Singapore. We had to get up at 4:00 a.m. to get ready to go to the airport. Consequently, some were tired. Actually they are talking. Bruce and Kent Smith. We were the first to arrive at the Pasir House.
We are getting some last minute things done. Jean and Linda Smith.
They set up the tables for us all to eat outside. There were about 36 people, I think.

We had a family home evening after dinner.

For the last evening of our senior conference we went out to eat and see the play Wicked. This is the building where we ate and went to see the play. From previous pictures of Singapore it is the building with three large towers with a ship on the top. I LOVED the play.
